Hardware renders are similar to what you may see when you play a 3D video game. The hardware rendering method uses your graphic card’s processor to render the scene.
INTRODUCING AUTODESK MAYA 2015 SOFTWARE
Maya software uses CPU power rather than GPU. You can use the software rendering method in a couple of ways. Maya Software, the default software rendering method, can capture just about everything you want in your scene, from reflections to motion blur and transparencies. Each engine has its own particular workflow and can yield entirely different results, although mental ray and Maya Software are close in appearance. Maya use many different render engines: Maya Software, Maya Hardware (or Hardware 2.0), Mental ray and Maya vector. This is a lot of work, but allows an almost infinite amount of creative control over what appears in the scene, and how it is depicted. Unlike regular photography, however, the scenes being photographed are imaginary, and everything appearing in a 3D rendering needs to be created in the computer before it can be rendered. 3D rendering is a creative process that is similar to photography or cinematography, because you are lighting and staging scenes and producing images. Rendering involves a large numbers of calculations which can take most of the system power. Its the final stage in the 3D computer graphics production process. Rendering is the process of generating an image from the 3D model. Mastering Autodesk Maya 2015 Autodesk Official Press. Render pass contribution maps define which objects and lights are included in a render pass. Each pass can be used in compositing software to rebuild the rendered scene efficiently. These passes are derived from calculations stored in the frame buffer. Render passes allow user to separate material properties into different images. This approach also allows user to make changes or variations easily or fix problems in individual elements rather than re-rendering the entire image or sequence every time you make a change. By separating things such as the reflections from the diffuse color, you can then exert maximum creative control over how the different images work together in the composite. Using render passes, we can separate the reflections, shadows, diffuse color, ambient occlusion, specular highlights, and so on into images or image sequences, which can then be reassembled in compositing software. Render passes divide the output created by a render layer into separate images or image sequences. Using overrides, you can change the way each layer renders. Each layer can have its own shaders, lights, and settings. Render layers can be used to separate the elements of a single scene into different versions or into different layers of a composite. These three modes are the three types of layers that we can create in Maya. Besides Render mode, the Layer Editor has Display and Animation modes. In render layer editor we can create and manage render layers in render mode. Render layers provides an enormous amount of creative flexibility. Render layers can be used to create a balance between efficiency and flexibility. Render layers are best used to isolate geometry, shaders, and lighting to create different versions of the same animation. The process of render compositing includes render layers and render passes. These passes can then be reassembled and processed with additional effects using compositing software such as Adobe After Effects or The Foundry Nuke afterwards.
